Although it was a bit last minute (life often is) I was so excited to have a girls night out last Tuesday to go see a pre-screening of Life As We Know It staring Katherine Heigl and Josh Duhamel. Unfortunately, life as I know it, my friend could not go to this chick-flick directed by Greg Berlanti.
Then I started calling, emailing, and texting my sitters so I could go with my husband. But, life as I know it, my sitters weren’t available either.
So I decided to take myself on a date…and I went to the movie. But here’s the glitch (because there’s always a glitch). My husband was 30 minutes late getting home, which meant I was 40 minutes late to the movie. And when I arrived onto Northwestern’s campus, a very kind woman from Warner Brothers told me the entire theater was completely full.
Seriously? I just wanted to have a relaxing night at the movies. I felt like a complete mess with no friend, no date, and now no movie.
And then something happened when I was leaving the theater.
I was asked to be interviewed by a reporter from The Daily Northwestern. She asked me what brought me out that night and if I knew the director, Greg Berlanti, attended Northwestern (which I did not know) and was here tonight (which I did not know).
She suggested I stay for the rest of the movie and for the live interview with Greg Berlanti after the show.
And so I did…and I’m happy I stayed. I sat on a small, uncomfortable, backless canvas stool in the back of theater…but the movie was so enjoyable that I hardly noticed the discomfort.
The movie was funny. Not belly laughing funny, but romantic comedy funny.
The BEST part of the evening was listening to the director talk about his experience with the show. Greg Berlanti got personal, was honest, and created a fast and impressive rapport with the audience in the theater.
Below is a clip from the after-movie interview with Greg Berlanti.

I attended this complimentary screening of this movie and received a gift card from Mom Central to facilitate this review. Life As We Know It will be in theaters starting October 8, 2010.
Hey, talk about lemonade from lemons, and raspberry flavored at that, with the addition of the director there.
Awesome night.
I had to chuckle at your description of yourself, sounding so much like me on way too many nights, “no friend, no date, no movie.”
Great name for a blog, don’t you think?
Sounds like it took a lot of effort to have some fun, but I’m glad you finally got it! My girlfriend and I snuck out for a daytime movie a couple of weeks ago and say Going the Distance with Drew Berrymore and the Apple computer guy. Oh, it was so terrible. We were glad to be the only ones in the theater because we talked most the way through it.
I just saw a preview for this movie tonight and I thought to myself that I’d like to see it (though I’m not usually a romantic comedy kind of girl). It does look really cute 🙂 I’m glad your evening ended on such a high note.
